Loren Ryan releases Suddenly, her first single as the 2023 Toyota Star Maker winner. The song was one of two songs Loren performed in Tamworth this January at the Star Maker Grand Final.
Loren said; “Nostalgia is the core theme of this song. Everyone says time passes by so quickly and to savour every moment with your little one, and you don’t really understand them until suddenly you no longer have a toddler and you’re shopping for their first school uniform.
“I’m quite a sentimental person; I’ve raised my daughter Charlie on my own since she was four-months old, and every year when I sing happy birthday to her, I’ve cried happy tears,” she said.
“We’re building a beautiful mother and daughter relationship that I will nurture and cherish forever, and I will always marvel when I watch her grow into her independence, step-by-baby-step.
“Our shared memories together are the most valuable things I possess.”
In September 2022, Loren attended the APRA AMCOS SongHubs Country at BIGSOUND 2022, where she joined US hitmaker Shy Carter and fellow Australian artists including James Johnston, Kaylee Bell and Melanie Dyer.
It was at this event that she impressed CMA Vice President, International Relations and Development Milly Olykan, who joined the writers as event curator and it was here where Suddenly was written, with Melanie Dyer and Gavin Carfoot.
Gavin Carfoot said; “We wrote Suddenly as part of APRA’s first ever Country SongHubs writing event. Milly Olykan from the CMA in Nashville put Loren, Melanie Dyer and I together for the day. Loren was really missing her daughter, who was back home in Tamworth and growing up so quickly.
“The song just flowed straight out of that emotion. It was something that I could relate to as well, thinking about my twin daughters who are about to turn 12, going on 21! Loren captures the feeling so perfectly in her performance. It’s something that every parent can understand.”
Melanie Dyer added; “It was an absolute pleasure to be in the room to collaborate with Loren and Gavin on this special song. From the moment Loren expressed that she wanted to write a song for her daughter, we had the box of tissues at the ready and felt every single lyric and melody that floated around the room. It was extra special to see Loren perform this song and connect with an audience of thousands at Toyota Park and go on to take out the Starmaker title!”
Loren has just returned from her first international adventure, the 50th CMA Fest in Nashville, Tennessee where she performed on the Spotlight Stage and at the Sounds Australia Showcase. During the second half of 2023 Loren will perform at Hats Off To Country Festival in her hometown of Tamworth, then onto the Gympie Music Muster, Deni Ute Muster, Groundwater Country Music Festival, Savannah In The Round and Cruisin’ Country
